Solved

Perpetual license Quartus II doesn't allow to build Cyclone V devices anymore.

We have been using Quartus II for certain smaller designs on Cyclone V for nearly 15 years now,
but now, after re-generating the license again I can now still run Quartus II,
but it gives me the error :

Error (119013): Current license file does not support the 5CGTFD9E5F31C7 device.

I can also still build all my Arria10 designs using Quartus Prime (for which we have separate licenses),
so it's not an issue with the license server or license daemon.

Can someone help me with this ?

  • I managed to get the issue resolved by updating my Linux OS to a newer version.
The license server (lmgrd) version which I was using was outdated,
and the latest version of lmgrd did not seem to work correctly on my previous Linux version.
Now all licenses are working correctly again.

    Additional info :
Trying to get 'Altera Premier Support' to resolve this also doesn't seem to work, as Altera doesn't seem to be able to confirm my account information.

May i know you're re-generating the perpetual license?

Could you try the license from the Self-Service Licensing Center:

OK, I tried this, but when I get to the following page and want to choose an existing computer, it says "There are no existing computers." (encircled in red)

But then when I click "View All Computers" (encircled in yellow),
the browser opens a new webpage which does lists all of my computers.
    See 2nd screenshot.

So on the first web-page, I simply cannot click 'Generate' because I cannot select a computer there.

I guess the problem might be caused (again) because I have 2 mail addresses for my mailbox,
and the 'Primary Admin Email' is registered to 1 mail address, while my login for my Intel account (Microsoft Azure) uses the other mail address.  This has been a problem before, but our IT department apparently is unable to fix this.
When I try to login to Azure with my Primary Admin Email address, it doesn't allow me to do that.

And when I try to add a "New Computer" and enter the information of my already existing computer,
I get an error message saying that this computer already exists...

Try to edit the existing computer host name to other name. Then create a new computer. Does it shows up?

"Try to edit the existing computer host name to other name."

    That doesn't work :

Creating a 'new computer' from this page works :

and then that PC also shows up in my list of computers :

So it is really weird that I can't select one of my existing computers on the "Generate license" page...

So now the new 'test pc' also shows up in the "generate license" page,
but my other PCs still don't...
Is there some way for you to increase the number of rehosts available on my 2 Quartus Prime Pro licenses from 0 to 2 ?  That would allow me to rename the existing host, and then create a new one and move all the licenses over.

Ok, I tried this as well, but my original server is a 'FLOAT' server,
so apparently I cannot move this license to that server ?

I was finally able to generate the license file, I simply used my build PC itself to setup the fixed license server.

However, I am now still unable to build CycloneV devices with Quartus Prime standard edition 20.1.

Which license exactly do I need to build CycloneV devices with Quartus ?

I think there're some confusion. For Quartus Prime standard edition 20.1, ypu need this (screenshot):

Yes, I have Quartus Prime licenses (as well as Quartus Pro licenses).

And I can still build my design with my old license file (generated over a year ago) on the old license server,
but after re-generating the license file, building CycloneV with Quartus Prime doesn't work anymore.
(While I can still build e.g. Arria10 designs with Quartus Pro).

Here is a list of the licenses which I now have :

Below you can see a part of the generated license file, which shows Quartus SE / Quartus PE licenses.

I am still stuck with this issue.
Intel Support still hasn't replied after they responded I should come to this forum.

Could you screenshot the error message? Also, provide both the working (old license) and non-working license (re-generated license) (can email to me qi.sheng.ng@altera.com)
