sorry was vague. Other computer is win XP is other then the one with the problem. This computer is windows 7 and has the problem.
I hadn't saved the executable as I expected not to need it on the windows 7 computer. Now I wish I would have. But it is too late so am doing it the long way. - Altera_Forum

--- Quote Start --- sorry was vague. --- Quote End --- Yeah, this whole thread is a bit vague in places :) Lets take on one problem at a time. First, lets just focus for a moment on Windows 7 and the USB-Blaster driver. Can you write down the list of things that you did with respect to the things I said to check on, eg., something like 1) I installed Quartus II web edition 11.1sp1 with administrator privileges 2) After plugging in the BeMicro-SDK, the hardware was detected for the first time, and I pointed it to the drivers folder in the quartus install area. 3) The device manager shows the 'Altera USB-Blaster' device 4) jtagconfig -n does not find hardware 5) netstat shows the jtagserver running on 1309 Embellishing this list where needed. Pre 1
missed this dialogue List of required items  Arrow Electronics BeMicro SDK FPGA-based MCU Evaluation Board  Design Software (Quartus® II design software v11.1., Nios® II EDS 11.1, Micrium uC/Probe)  Intel Pentium III or compatible Windows PC, running at 866MHz or faster, with a minimum of 512MB of system memory. note regarding lab supported operating systems: 32 bit versions of windows xp, windows vista and windows 7 are supported by software tools required for this lab. no 64 bit versions are supported  Lab Design Files  Please note that version 11.0 will work as well, but certain diagrams in this document may not match Item One Step one Downloaded Quartus II web edition. Got account setup and then downloaded it. Step two Altera Installer Setup. Run the Altera Installer and Navigate to the installer setup page. Select the download installation files from the internet radio button (does not say as Administrator so I did not. I am in the process of reinstalling to try that.) Downloaded files from the internet. My setup did not list full version just web edition and NIOS2 design tools Step 3 Extracted the Lab. Actually that was Pre step 3 as the instructions are in the lab... but it was already done with no spaces in it etc. Item 2 Driver installation. Step one. Plug in BeMicro-SDK. Step two. Look under devices and printers because it needs trouble shooting before I can install drivers manually. Step three. Run troubleshooting program and have it inform me I need drivers. Step 4. Open device manager select USB blaster under unknown hardware. I believe it said update driver maybe was install driver. Click it. Step 5. Tell driver install I need to install from a specific location, navigate to the drivers folder, USB-Blaster install from there. Click finish Item 3 Step 1 verify device displays in USB controllers rather then unknown. It was in USB controllers. Name was Altera USB-Blaster. Item 4 Step 1 Find jtagServer.exe, run command as you typed it but added .exe to it otherwise it won't run under windows command shell. Result Failure. As I just unistalled QUartus I can not double check my result but it was posted a few pages back and will edit this with my previous result. Look though a huge list paying attention to right column where it said listen port 1309 is shown with listen. Step 2 stop service. Task manager, Services tab, Jtagserver right click and click on stop. Step 3 Netstat command as step one. Look at list as in step one check items with listen in right column for 1309. 1309 does not exist this time. Step 4 Task man, services, jtagserver, right click and click start. Step 5 repeat Netstat as in 1 and 3, Look at list for listening ports as in 1 and 3, Find 1309 as in 1. - Altera_Forum

This issue sounds very similar to that posted by LeonWagner
http://www.alteraforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33933 Quartus II 11.1 sp2 web edition, 64-bit Windows 7. Read that post, and if you agree it sounds like the same issue, post a comment that you are seeing the same problem. BadOmen might have some suggestions (refer back to this post too). If I can't get this to work do you think they will extend my trial lisence? I only ask because I now have 15 days to try to make something that actually works on this.
As far as the qustion about the JTAG server. It reports back no jtag hardware available just like LeonWagner. On my driver I have all different files then you do. Will look up the exact names and post them. Possibly there is something wrong with the files installed. You Have The individual driver files (Driver Details button): C:\windows\system32\drivers\usbblstr.sys FTDI 2.04.16 C:\windows\system32\usbblstr64.dll FTDI 3.01.18 C:\windows\system32\usbblstrlang.dll FTDI 1.3.0.1 C:\windows\system32\usbblstrui.dll FTDI 1.2.0.1 C:\windows\system32\usbblstr32.dll FTDI 3.01.18 I Have C:\windows\system32\drivers\ftdibus.sys FTDI 2.04.16 C:\windows\system32\ftgusui.dll FTDI 1.2.01 C:\windows\system32\ftd2xx.dll FTDI 3.01.18 C:\windows\system32\ftlang.dll FTDI 1.3.0.1 C:\windows\syswow64\ftd2xx.dll FTDI 3.01.18 - Altera_Forum

--- Quote Start --- If I can't get this to work do you think they will extend my trial lisence? --- Quote End --- You don't need a license. Quartus web edition will work with this board. --- Quote Start --- I Have C:\windows\system32\drivers\ftdibus.sys FTDI 2.04.16 C:\windows\system32\ftgusui.dll FTDI 1.2.01 C:\windows\system32\ftd2xx.dll FTDI 3.01.18 C:\windows\system32\ftlang.dll FTDI 1.3.0.1 C:\windows\syswow64\ftd2xx.dll FTDI 3.01.18 --- Quote End --- But these are not the USB-Blaster driver files. These look like they might be the FTDI driver files. Can you look at the device PID and VID? What are they? Bring up the device manager, click on 'Altera USB-Blaster', click on the details tab, then select 'Hardware IDs' from the pull-down menu. It should say

I copied this data to notepad then into the submit form. Was astounded to find it says the same thing except for the ampersand being a slash on yours.
Hardware IDs: USB\VID_09FB&PID_6001&REV_0600 USB\VID_09FB&PID_6001 I am unsure why I needed a trial license to actually, they said, use the ram if I don't. Like I said I know very little about FPGA's I wish I had gotten one without NIOSII as the project I wanted to use is actually compiled for a simpler setup. Had no idea that this would make it not work. Actually not work isn't specifically true. It likely would work. I would just have to learn the supporting systems I think. That having been said it is a more advanced project then initially projected. - Altera_Forum

You're using web edition 11.1SP2 right - the other thread indicated that the USB-Blaster did not work with that version. Did you try 11.1SP1? --- Quote Start --- I am unsure why I needed a trial license to actually, they said, use the ram if I don't. Just ignore it, unless you need to use the DDR of course. Cheers, Dave
