Try this:
1. erase ~/.mw folder 2. Add this line setenv MWNO_FILE_LOCKING TRUE at the end of /opt/altera9.1/quartus/mw/setmwruntime.csh And add this line MWNO_FILE_LOCKING=TRUE at the end of /opt/altera9.1/quartus/mw/setmwruntime - Altera_Forum

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm afraid that those changes didn't make any difference.

there is one other place MainWin files live, in /tmp/Mw_<username>. try and purge those files.

Thanks, but no luck with that either. Worked fine until I installed sp1. now when I start quartus I just get a blank window that never goes away. I can't wait until they dump MainWin in version 10,0!

Thanks! I didn't even know that program existed.
Yes, qgui runs fine for me. - Altera_Forum

I have the same problem on my Ubuntu 9.10, and it's defiantly a MainWin problem. Using the QGUI isn't a good idea, because it gives you the lite version (web edition) GUI. However I figured out a solution, you just replace the "mw" (or "mw64") directory in quartus 9.1sp2 with the "mw" (or "mw64") directory in quartus 9.1. Then you can using 9.1sp2 with the ugly 9.1 MainWin GUI.
I really like the QT GUI, so hope they finish the beta ASAP. - Altera_Forum

Thank you Ivan, I just noticed your post and changing the mw directories worked for me too.
I actually like the qgui interface better and will be glad when they finally get rid of MainWin, but like you I found it to be incomplete.
