Issue in Quartus 16.1 with Windows 11 Pro

IssueHi,

I am using Quartus Prime 16.1 Standard Edition and utilize schematic entry to create .bdf file.

OS is Windows 11 Pro.

I am facing issue to view

1) Block & Symbol names

2) Instance, bus, node & conduit names

3) Port name aliases

4) Comment & other text

Check the Image. Text is cut from the end.

In the image, a node CLK1_25E is not visible completely. “_” and “E” are missing in the view. They are completely visible when open Node Properties.

I am trying by changing different Font Type, Size and Style in the Quartus Font setting but still the result is same. Also change the screen resolution but still the result is same.

Please help to resolve the problem.

It's almost a 10 year old version of the software. It is not supported in Windows 11. As such, there's no guarantee that anything will work correctly. You should use a more recent version of Quartus.

      Hi sstrell,

      Thanks for reply.

I am checking the same file to open in Quartus II 9.1 sp2, it is still okay when open in Windows 11 pro.

It's apparently a problem with text scaling, I'm not even sure if it's directly related to Windows 11 versus Windows 10. There are probably ways to tune text display, e.g. changing resolution or text size in Windows.

But as stated, there's no guaranteed Windows 11 support for old Quartus Versions. I'd not specifically worry about V16.1, rather about V9.0, V13.0 and V13.1 that are required to maintain legacy device and e.g. Cyclone to Cyclone III designs. Fortunately they basically work under Windows 11, although not even Windows 10 is officially supported. If you rely on specific functionality of a certain version that doesn't work under Windows 11, you should consider a virtual machine.

      Hi ShengN,

      Thanks for reply.

We will downgrade OS to Window 10. It is the Final Solution.

        @PiyushM :

Exactly. The standard response on these forums is "its not compatible." Sorry for your frustrations but you have nailed the solution.

        • Windows 11 recognizes very high definition displays at installation and may default the display scale to 150 or 200% to make text easier to read. While this works well in many applications. Quartus isn't auto-scaling based on the display settings. This makes the display text push into the symbol.
        • I have my students display at 100% while they are working in Quartus. This fixes all of the text issues. When they are done using Quartus, they can then rescale display settings if desired.
