Using Clocklock+Clockboost on EPF10K100GC503-3DX with Quartus 9.0SP2. How?

Hi!
I recently started experimenting with a dinosaur*:

EPF10K100GC503-3DX

*Yes... I know it's old but I got some and it's "just for show". ;-)

In order to use this device I learned that I need to change the device type in the project
file manually because the project wizard doesn't know the device... okay; no problem.
But how can I use the ClockLock and ClockBoost feature mentioned in the datasheet?
Is it even possible when using Quartus9 or is this functionality limited to MAX+PLUS II software?

Thanks

I compiled a minimal design for both chips in Max+plus II. At least -3 and -3DX *.hex files of identical designs have no differences.

That's great: At least I can use the -3DX parts with the toolchain I have (Quartus 9.0). :-)

I also tried to enable Clocklock on the V10.23 I have here... but the MegaWizard plugin does not give me the
option to choose on of the special features. Only arithmetic, gates and storage is available.
Could it be that the -3DX features are only available with a special license?

    Hi,

I used most recent V 10.23. When importing the project to Quartus, device EPF10K100GC503-3DX was changed to EPF10K100GC503-3. An attempt to compile the design gives an error like "altclklock not supported for device family".

My conclusion is that EPF10K100GC503-3DX or other possibly existing EPF10K device with PLL feature wasn't supported in any Quartus version up to latest version supporting Flex10 family V 9.0 SP2. EPF10KE*-X devices are however supported.

If somebody has other knowledge, please report.

Thanks for the information. It's a pity that Quartus doesn't support the additional features.

I wonder if the a bitstream compiled for -3 will still run on a -3DX device? (I do not have the possibility to check that yet).

    Hi,

according to my test, Quartus 9.0 (also 9.0 SP2) doesn't know EPF10K100GC503-3DX, only EPF10K100GC503-3 (same device without PLL feature). altclklock is only supported for EPF10KE family in Quartus 9.0.

Neither Quartus nor MAX+Plus II allow to chose EPF10K100GC503-3 or EPF10K100GC503-3DX in device selection, but if manually set, it's recognized, the latter only for MAX+Plus II.

So it looks like you are stuck with MAX+Plus II to activate clock boost feature for this specific device.

Thanks. Which version of MAX+Plus did you use?
And: Maybe importing the -3DX project created with MAX+Plus into Quartus would do the trick?
