SOPC BUilder V7.2 problem for windows 7

I have installed Quartus II 7.2 on windows 7 in which I am unable to open the SOPC builder on windows 7

Everything else is working perfectly except when we click on the SOPC Builder option

is opens up and begins to initialize.

At the end of it we get the usual screen of

name of system

language( ie VHDL or verilog)

and i click ok (please see the attached file for the appeared screen)

it just disappears and it doesn't open.

Wanted to know if i can do anything to get it to work, does there is any turnaround by selecting any program with xp compatibility o windows 7?

Windows 7 isn't officially supported on such an old version of Quartus so you should try and upgrade, if possible, or use an older version of Windows.

For some projects, when we are required to still use old versions of Quartus, we keep a virtual machine with a corresponding version of Windows.

Any specific reason why you need 7.2?

Thanks for the reply, just wanted to know if any turnaround is there or not. Reason for 7.2 is my sopc project was created with it & then the OS was upgraded. Does we need to follow any specific steps while installing virtual machine & quartus?

No, just create the virtual machine, install Windows XP in it and then Quartus. Depending on the kind of virtual machine you use, it may be a bit tricky to make the USB blaster work.

SOPC builder is still available in the more recent versions of Quartus (IIRC the last version that will have SOPC Builder is 12)

If you have problems getting the USB-Blaster working you could also host the JTAG server on Windows 7 (native) and have the tools in the VM (XP) connect to it over Ethernet using remote JTAG.

I typically use Virtualbox and usually getting the USB-Blaster working is seemless.
