I am doing a design with EP3C120, and we will try to use EP3C40 when is done, with the same PCB. Suppose gate count and pin count are enough for both C120 and C40. How can I design a better design which a easily migrate from C120 to C40 without design a new PCB? Are there any doc talk about this issue? Thanks

broadly speaking, you need to select the EP3C40F484 as a migration device. Quartus will then perform the necessary checks. Check the the Quartus Design Planning Guide, in particular the topics "Migration Planning" and "Early Pin Planning & I/O Analysis" http://www.altera.com/literature/hb/qts/qts_qii51016.pdfHonored ContributorMigration across some devices may not need respin of pcb provided you have such migration support(possibly called vertical migration). It applies to devices having same footprint subset with larger devices of its family adding up extra io to the footprint subset. In that case you need to choose your pins at the smallest device then migrate up. Quartus tools offer help in this area.
