How do I program EPCQ on Cyclone V GT Development Kit

Hi, Please advise me how do I program the FPGA using .jic file? I converted my .sof file to .jic with EPCQ256. I assumed this is the one in the dev kit. I checked the schematic in the cd content I downloaded from your website, but couldn't see the EPCQ chip in the schematic. I saw MT25QL256ABA8ESF and used this as well but both failed. I already set MSEL1 to 1, MSEL2 to 0 and MSEL4 to 1 to get 10010 (AS Mode). But when programming, it failed with this error "Error (209025): Can't recognize silicon ID for device 1. A device's silicon ID is different from its JTAG ID. Verify that all cables are securely connected, select a different device, or check the power on the target system. Make sure the device pins are connected and configured correctly."

I googled and it seemed the problem is with hardware: "This problem is caused by an incorrect device used for component U29, which impacts the AS configuration circuit. This issue only affects the Cyclone® V GT FPGA Development Kit (DK-DEV-5CGTD9N-B) with serial numbers ranging from 5CPCIE00100011 to 5CPCIE00100115." as specified in this link https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/articles/000100314.html My 2 board serial number is 5CPCIE00100019 and 5CPCIE00100107. Please advise us how to proceed!
  • Hi,

The right part number for U29 should be IDTQS3861QG.

You may provide us your address and we can ship the right U29 parts to you. If you do not want to expose your personal information, please send through "Private Message".

    Thanks!

    Best Regards,

    Xiaoyan

    Hi,

As mentioned in the KDB you found, the U29 on the board is not the right part. We feel sorry for the mistake!

May I know whether you have the capability of reworking the component? If so, we can send you the right U29 part and then you rework on the board directly, which will be a quick fix to this problem.

  • Hi, thank you for your response!

We can change the component if we have the correct parts. Would you mind providing us the right part?

If I understand right, the issue isn't caused by EPCQ flash U33 but buffer U29. MT25QL256ABA8ESF is apparently suited as EPCQ256 replacement.
