What do the words "Initial" and "Advanced" mean in the device selection window

I come across many devices having the words "initial" and "advanced" in the device selection window in Quartus II. These words appear right next to the name of the device in the list. What do these words signify?

It means the support for those devices is based on preliminary characterization of the said devices.

You can simulate, compile and even perform timing analysis, but you can't generate programming files.

If you want to use actually use them, you'll have to wait for a future release of Quartus with full support for them.

    See page 12

Well if they are "preliminary" than how accurate is the simulation and timing analysis? Why does Altera not wait until everthing is fully ready and than put it into Quartus?

So that people can generate designs for when the parts are released. Most of the timing information will be correct.

Is it possible that as time proceeds, by the time the device reaches its full version from being "initial", it will result in some drastic changes in it? Can we be 100% sure that nothing will be changed in it?

It will never be 100% correct, but it shouldnt change too much. It should only be the timings that change, resources onboard will be pretty well fixed months, if not years in advance.
