What do the words "Initial" and "Advanced" mean in the device selection window

I come across many devices having the words "initial" and "advanced" in the device selection window in Quartus II. These words appear right next to the name of the device in the list. What do these w...

It means the support for those devices is based on preliminary characterization of the said devices.

You can simulate, compile and even perform timing analysis, but you can't generate programming files.

If you want to use actually use them, you'll have to wait for a future release of Quartus with full support for them.
