What do the words "Initial" and "Advanced" mean in the device selection window

I come across many devices having the words "initial" and "advanced" in the device selection window in Quartus II. These words appear right next to the name of the device in the list. What do these w...

Is it possible that as time proceeds, by the time the device reaches its full version from being "initial", it will result in some drastic changes in it? Can we be 100% sure that nothing will be changed in it?
