Quartus II, disable .bak generation

Quartus II has a bad habit of creating old .bak versions of files.

How can I disable this?

Are you sure it's Quartus generating those files? Searching my machine reveals 2 .bak files (across 40+ Quartus projects) and i created both of those, not Quartus...

Is it really such a 'bad habit'?

Quartus, using 13.0, is definetely generating the files.

If I remove the .bak file and modify the original and save it, the .bak file reappers.

If you use a modern source revisioning system like git it is pointless that the tool creates new files by itself.

You can use a different text editor...

The text editor built into Quartus (which I've just had a play with, having never used it before) automatically generates the .bak files. It doesn't look like you can prevent it from doing that.

There are plenty of editors available, many that support syntax highlighting and many more features that'll help your coding. I suggest you look into a few.

    Cheers,
