what 'merlin' stands for

Hi all,

This maybe a silly question, but it indeed upsets me a lot.

i currently use ddr3 controller in my project, and among the files generated by Quartus, there is a 'merlin' in the module name, such as 'altera_merlin_master_translator' etc.

I search all around including altera.com, alteraforum.com, google, and cannot find out what on earth 'merlin' stands for.

so, could anyone kindly tell me what 'merlin' means please?

Merlin is a wizard, so I'm guessing it's where all the undocumented magic happens.

yes, i see, it may come from 'Arthur and Merlin Legend' including 'Avalon'.

Kent Orthner chose "Merlin" for the name of the interconnect in his master's thesis:

But why did Kent choose "Merlin"? I've never asked him, but I'm guessing he noticed the use of other Arthurian names (Avalon, Guinevere) and found something that fit in with that.
