fpga for 1080p60 422 10bit portable hd video recorder

Hello,

I'm new in the forum .. also a "litle beginner" .. this is my first post so admins. are welcome to move this thread to another forum if appropiated.

What do you think guys is the most cost effective fpga board to build a 1080p60 4:2:2 10bit portable (no more than 140x120mm +-) video recorder, for uncompressed being able optionally to record in some compressed codec ?

What other elements do i need if i want to build a portable system with:

-hdmi & hd-sdi in outs

-2x sata III ports for storage (raidable)

-a custom software through a touchscreen

This is intented for a few units.

Any ideas, any project links, sources

Thanks

best

You'll need a high speed FPGA with transceivers. Altera offers no SATA cores and I doubt there are many SATA3 cores to choose from. Anyway, You're targeting a HUGE price of the device which will probably won't be worth doing.

Finding SATA IPs may indeed be difficult, and you will need a decent CPU power to handle the SATA drives and filesystem, especially if you require a high bandwidth. I'm not sure an FPGA is the ideal component for this task and you may have to look for a hardcore CPU instead, preferably one that already has those interfaces.

Basically yes, You could consider using atom cpu plus fpga interconnected using pci-e. Anyway, that's a huge project... :)
