Simulation with Quartus2 11.1 SP2

I just downloaded the latest package, Version 11.1 SP2. A lot of details were changed since Version 9 or so. Most notably, I'm missing the simulation, the creation and visualization of waveform files are missing too. The settings allow to add external tools. But apparently, there are no internal tools for this. Or did I look at the wrong place ?

You need to download Modelsim Altera-Starter-Edition (ASE).

It might take a little getting used to if you are more familiar with the older waveform drawing solution provided in Quartus 9. However, once you have got the hang of it, its much nicer to use. If you use VHDL or Verilog, I can point you to examples.

    Cheers,

Sadly, the Altera Simulation tool disappeared in version 10.0 :-( Too difficult to support the newer families, and it wasn't getting broad use any longer.

Thanks. I asked around amongst my colleagues, they all are still with version 9. I have a new computer unfortunately. So the version 9 seems to be the one... I'm not familiar with the HDL.

    >Akira :

    >hello, I just finished writing document.

this document is quick instruction of Modelsim.

    [snip] links to howtomodelsim.zip

    it might help you.

    .......................

Thanks, I had a look at it. Somehow the test bench is written in Verilog. There appears to be no chance of using waveform files as before...

actually, there is way, to use wave file, to force each waves.

but, my suggestion is that why don't you learn HDL. it is time to study it.

my document is not so difficult, you can just follow the example.

    try it.

You can now use QSim, which brings back vwf essentially

On the Altera site, under Training, University Programme, clink on the link where is says:

"Please visit the Quartus II Simulator page"

It's an additional download that also comes with lots of education examples.
