Quartus Poor Readability on High DPI Monitor (Mac Retina Display)

I am running Quartus II 64 Bit Version 15.0 in Windows 8.1. The windows is running in Bootcamp on a macbook pro with a retina display. Everything works fine - except there are a few scaling problems.

First of all the .bdf symbols are badly jumbled, the text shows only the top 1/8th of the font and can be truncated. Everything is overlapping. It makes this portion of Quartus unusable. High DPI monitors are coming Altera please make your software aware of different resolutions.

The mega function wizards are also very small on the screen. They are hard to use but with a magnifying glass they can be used.

I have spent some time looking for a solution but have found none. Graphic files are not a big deal anyways but I can't do the tutorial as its written. I did try dropping the resolution of my monitor, and using an external monitor and neither of these fixed the problem.

Thanks for reading my rant,

Tim

    Tricky,

Obviously I was thanking you ahead of time, for letting me know that. Ok I'll post a support ticket but I don't expect any action, I''m sure its a low priority problem for now.

    Hi Tim,

You can file an enhancement request to MySupport. But I believe you should expect low priority on this.

I'm new to Altera/Quartus and this site, so apologies if I've done this wrong....

    Hi Tim,

I'm not sure if you got anywhere with Altera on this, but I have had the same problem on my high-Res screen, on my windows 8.1 laptop, and found a workaround.

Like you, I tried dropping the resolution of the screen, with no success.

Then I remembered I had a similar problem when installing MS Office, and the same solution worked.

When you drop the resolution, you have to restart windows, for the change to have an effect on some programs. This is the case with Quartus.

It's not ideal, as it means restarting windows before and after using Quartus, to make best use of the high-res screen for other applications. But it does seem to work. I found 1920 x 1080 is low enough to make it usable.

I hope this helps, at least until Altera update Quartus to support high-res monitors.

    Regards,

    Chelle
