Platform Designer: Component Instantiation Tab doesn't exist

I am targeting a Cyclone V device.

I want to put a Nios II core + a Nios V core into it.

I want to compile this with Quartus Prime 24.1 Standard Edition (Build 1077)

Nios II support has been discontinued for Quartus Prime 24.1.

To still compile this design with Quartus Prime 24.1, I try to follow

AN 1009: Preserving Nios® II Processor IP for Quartus® Prime Version 24.1 and Newer

here: https://cdrdv2-public.intel.com/839395/an-839394-839395.pdf

On Page 7 this Application Note says:

5. Start the Quartus_1 software and follow these steps:
a. Open the Nios II Quartus Prime project.
b. Open the Platform Designer system.
c. Click Generate HDL to generate the processor implementation.
d. Select the Nios II processor.
e. Navigate to the Component Instantiation tab.

"Quartus_1 software" in my case is Quartus Prime 23.1.1 Standard Edition (Build 993)

As far as I can tell the "Component Instantiation tab" doesn't exist.

Does the "Component Instantiation tab" only exist in Quartus Prime PRO Editions ?

Does this mean for any of the older Families (non Agilex, < Cyclone 10GX) there is no way to port a Nios II design to Quartus Prime 24.1 ?

Could someone from Intel/Altera please clarify ?

  • Component Instantiation tab is only in Pro. You should be looking at page 16 in that app note for the Standard edition.

Thanks: I was obviously blind I did not see that there are separate chapters for Standard and PRO version.

    Hi,

May I know do you have any further concern or update after following the section 3 (standard version) of the document?

    Thanks,

    Regards,
