License issue

Hi guys,

I am new at my company which uses Quartus 12.0 (paid license). When I compile an existing design all is fine. However, when I try to compile the

same design with Quartus 11.1 it fails the fitter. My question is this related

to a license issue (11.1)?

The error does not say anything about a license problem.

This is a complex design which I took over, it involves QSYS with PCIe, etc.

How do I clean the compile history of 12.0 and start from scratch with 11.1 ?

    A newer license works fine with an older version of Quartus so I don't think you problem is related to the license.

    Quartus is able to upgrade a project from an older version to a newer one (it usually prints a message saying it needs to upgrade the database) but it may not be so easy in the other direction. That said 11.1 and 12.0 can't be that different...

    Did you try to delete the project database before opening it with 11.1? Go in the project (make a copy first!!!) and delete the "db" and "incremental db" folders. Then try to compile again.

    When you say "fails the fitter", is it an internal error or a more meaningful error message?

    Yes, I did just that, i.e. removed the db and incremental_db and start from the beginning. I also re-generated the Qsys with 11.1 I still get this message:

    Error (15096): Can't implement PLL "rootport_fifo_qsys:u0|rootport_fifo_qsys_qsys_pll:qsys_pll|rootport_fifo_qsys_qsys_pll_altpll_5rs2:sd1|pll7"

    Error: Quartus II 64-Bit Fitter was unsuccessful. 1 error, 0 warnings

    Error: Peak virtual memory: 470 megabytes

    Error: Processing ended: Wed Oct 03 11:03:47 2012

    Error: Elapsed time: 00:00:03

    Error: Total CPU time (on all processors): 00:00:03

    I fails right away the fitter after passing the synth ok.

    Is there any error message before this one saying why it can't implement the PLL? Scroll up in the message window, sometimes the real error is several lines before this one.

    Thanks for your help:) but I decided to go back to Qartus 12.0 where it compiles all the way at least.
