New ContributorLegacy 2011 Altera University Floating License SSLC cannot locate license
Hello,
I am the Systems Analyst, Sr. for the College of Engineering at my University where they host a 2011 University Floating license to support Quartus Prime 18.0. The license is active and running an older server that is being decommissioned.
The original license file includes
Organization Name
Original Server Name
Original host ID (MAC)
License Type: Quartus II Subscription Edition University Floating
Seats: 50
Features: Maxplus2 and Quartus
Perpetual license term
The issue
The license predates Intel's acquisition of Altera. The SSLC option 'Generate Legacy License" shows it only handles licenses prior to 2009. The original employee/account that obtained the original file is unable to be contacted and am in need of assistance generating this same license file/type with my account for the College of Engineering. I am trying to reach the Intel FGPA Licensing Team to help me with:
Verifying ownership of this legacy license
Transfer it to my intel account
Rehost it to a new server NIC
The support requests I've submitted tell me to seek assistance here. Any help would be appreciated.

From my understanding, you are looking to migrate the license to a new server because the original server has been decommissioned, and the account previously associated with the license is no longer accessible. Could you please confirm if my understanding is correct?
To help us check with the respective licensing team, is this license was issued through the Altera University Program/ Previous Intel University Program?
In addition, may I get the following details from you in order to check with the respective license team?

- Email:
- University Name:
- University Address:
- License Name:
- New NIC/Host ID:
- Old NIC/Host ID:
- License Type:
- If Floating, Number of Seats:
If possible, could you also provide the name and email address of the original employee/contact associated with this license?

Thanks so much for your response. Yes, your understanding is correct. I am migrating the license to a new server because the original is being decommissioned (Server 2019 is no longer within compliance at the University).
The account previously associated with the license is no longer accessible. The license was issued through the Altera University Program. The original employee who originally set this up does not work here and is unknown. The .lic file contains only the organization name, server name and host ID. I can provide the .lic file if it helps.

According to the email, the Altera University team was unable to locate for the license without the owner.
From my side, I would like to suggest the following:
1. For future convenience, including membership management and license access through your SSLC account, is it possible for you to follow the steps provided in the email to apply for Altera University Program membership and request a new license?2. If available, could you please provide the previous license file (.lic or .dat)? I can try help route it to our internal licensing team to check whether the license can be updated to rehosted with the new server. However, please note that transferring ownership of the license to a different owner may not be possible in this step.

Hello,
I am going to do as they asked where I apply for a membership then for a license. Admittedly, the re-assignment of the same license file would be preferred as it would save a lot of time. I was unable to include the .lic file itself but converted a copy of the file into a .txt file. The contents inside are unaltered from the original .lic file.

Thank you for sharing the license file. At this time, the licensing team is unable to support transferring or reassigning the existing license to a new server. Therefore, obtaining a new license through the University Program process would be the recommended path moving forward.
However, there may be another option. If you still have access to the original SSLC account used to generate these licenses, including the owner email address and login credentials, you may be able to rehost the license to the new server through SSLC (https://licensing.altera.com/sslc/s/)
Based on the license file you provided, I noticed that the licenses have maintenance expiration dates until 2030 or 2040:
NIOS II Soft Processor MegaCore — 50 seats- Maintenance expires: December 2030 (2030.12)
Quartus II Subscription Edition University Floating License — 50 seats
- Maintenance expires: January 2040 (2040.01)
Thank you for sharing the license file. At this time, the licensing team is unable to support transferring or reassigning the existing license to a new server. Therefore, obtaining a new license through the University Program process would be the recommended path moving forward.
However, there may be another option, if you still have access to the original SSLC account used to generate these licenses (including the owner email address and login credentials), you may be able to rehost the license to the new server through the SSLC self-service process. Based on the license file you provided, I noticed that the licenses have maintenance expiration dates until 2030 and 2040.
You may refer to Section 6.6.13, "Rehosting All Licenses from Current Computer to a Different Computer," in the Altera FPGA Software Installation and Licensing User Guide (https://docs.altera.com/r/docs/683472/26.1/altera-fpga-software-installation-and-licensing/answers-to-top-faqs). You may be able to rehost the license to the new server by following the documented steps.

Thank you for the update.To check whether the license can be used with Quartus Prime 18.0, could you please help check for the maintenance expiration date in the license.dat file? The license can be used with any Quartus version released before the maintenance expiration date.
