How can my company retrieve a license for Quartus Prime Standard 15.1?

Hi everyone,

I need to use Quartus Prime Standard Edition 15.1 (15.1.0.185) for an older FPGA project, and I'm trying to understand how my company can obtain a valid license for this legacy version.

Since Quartus 15.1 is no longer available on the current Altera/Intel download portal, could someone clarify how the licensing process works in a company environment?

  1. What is the usual internal process for arranging or retrieving a license for a legacy Quartus version?
  2. If the company does NOT have a prior license, is there still a way for the company to contact Altera/Intel sales or support to obtain a license for Quartus 15.1?
  3. Is there a specific Altera/Intel support channel, sales representative, or licensing portal that corporate customers must go through for legacy licensing?

Any guidance on how other companies have coordinated this, would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance!

  • Thank you FvM  for answering, and yes, they are all covered by a recent Quartus Prime Std. license. FYI, you can check this in the license.dat file. As long as the 'Maintenance Expiration' date is later than the release date of the Quartus Standard version, the perpetual Quartus Standard license can be used. For example, Quartus 15.1 was released in 2015, so a maintenance expiration date of 2014 or earlier will not work, but 2016 or later will work.

You can contact our Altera Authorized Distributors for license purchase.

To clarify on getting the installation files, previously we needed an NDA to obtain the legacy Quartus versions, but now we have the Legacy Download Center, which allows us to download all the older Quartus versions. This really helps save a lot of time and effort.

However, users who are new to Quartus might be confused about which versions are considered legacy and which are not.

You can navigate there through the Download Center by selecting the " View Legacy Software & Versions"

    Hi,

Quartus licensing and provision of legacy versions are separate tasks. If you want to run a licensed Quartus II or Quartus Prime Std. version, they are all covered by a recent Quartus Prime Std. license. Respective license features are "quartus", "ip_base" and possibly specific IP licenses. To obtain legacy Quartus installation files, either Std. or Lite, you need to sign an NDA with Altera. Refer to previous thread Quartus 2 64bit version 15.0.2 | Altera Community - 323555
