Functional Simulation with MIF File

Im trying to use functional simulation for a processor with a RaM module which is instantiated using the IP Catalog,i have mif file to be attached to the ram.

the design is working on the DE2-115 FPGA chip but doesnt work with the functional simulation

i tried not to attach the mif file and the result was the same as when i insert it! so it seems the simulator cant see the mif file

any ideas?
