Cyclone IV

Dear all,

I am new to FPGA development, so please excuse me if I am asking an obvious question. I would like to start with a DE0-NANO, from what I've seen there were some problems around 2022 where windows 11 did not support the cyclone IV devices. I have tried looking around and have found some posts that stated this is still unresolved while others have reported some work-arounds. But I haven't found a concrete answer that said this issue had 100% been resolved by new Quartus prime lite versions. My question, is if the DE0-NANO is compatible with the latest version for Quartus prime lite in combination with Windows 11. I wouldn't like to order an expensive development board for it to be incompatible.

I appreciate your response and time!

    Hi @Luckyguide ,

The latest version for Quartus prime lite v23.1.1 is supported by Windows 11, you can see it here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/support-resources/design-software/os-support.html#tab-blade-1-2.

And Quartus prime lite v23.1.1 supports Cyclone IV FPGA of DE0-Nano board, you can see and download it here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/software-kit/825278/intel-quartus-prime-lite-edition-design-software-version-23-1-1-for-windows.html

    They are compatible.

    Thank you for your responses.

I have 1 further question however, I have decided to go with the DE10-Lite as it is a bit more advanced. But when i try add the DE10-Lite board in Quartus Prime Lite 23.1, it only has the 10M50DAF484C6GES FPGA. While the DE10-Lite board i use has a 10M50DAF484C7G FPGA. Does this pose any problems?

  • It is recommended to select the device for your project based on the FPGA devices on the board.

You can go to Assignments > Device, and change to the 10M50DAF484C7G device.

Yes, I agree, but perhaps I stated my question incorrectly.

I have the 10M50DAF484C7G selected as my device but when I try to add a board as seen in the image below. Then the only possible DE10-Lite board is equipped with the 10M50DAF484C6GES FPGA. I also can't add another board as the link in the image when not being able to find the board doesn't work.

Do you recommend me not choosing a board and only selecting the 10M50DAF484C7G as a device without selecting a board?

  • I would avoid opening a new project using the board template. Those device part name is likely outdated years ago.

Just create a new project with your FPGA device selected.

FYI, Quartus Lite/Standard is in maintenance mode, meaning there will be no future support or feature enhancements. Issues will only be addressed if there is a critical error with no available workaround.
