can you create a simple test case that displays the problem and file a service request?

What do you mean a test case? I click on the entity and a file that does not contain that entity opens, or nothing happens at all. It all depends. If I exit Quartus II and start it again, it may work one time in the beginning, and then it stops to work again. Are you saying that you have never encountered this?

Look into Project Explorer. It lists all paths of project files. Do not use anything absolute path unless it is from Quartus libraries.

Thanks waiyung. But can you be a bit more specific. What is the "Project explorer"? And what do you mean by absolute paths?

in 10.1 Web Edition on Linux i can click on various entities in the hierarchy tab and the expected file opens
do you see failures in all of your designs? i thought the problem may be a specific combination of entity names and file structure which is why i suggested a test case - Altera_Forum

It happens to me now and then (Quartus II 9.1SP2). I never understood why though. I just do what any Windows Programmer then does: "Close and re-open all Windows" :o

This is unbearable. If I close and re-open it works only as long as i don't change the top level entity. Once I change it, it's all over the place again. I click on entities and who knows what files it will try to open. This is a major bug. I cannot even post a service request because my account is also screwed up. I can login but when I try to do something it will ask me again to login where my username and password will fail.

I've had a very similar (maybe same?) problem with the project navigator-see my post Feb 24. It didn't happen until I moved to 10.1. I've had a SR in for two weeks hoping to get an answer, but there has been no response.

This software is just terrible. So I guess this is a major bug for 10.1. Has there been any feedback from Altera regarding this? I will not be wasting my time (again) with a service request.
BTW, how many versions will it take for them to realize that there is no need to compile ALL of the files in the entire project every time you hit compile, but only what is incorporated in the selected top level hierarchy?
