Update for Latest Release - Read this!

Is this what my problem is? I have a new nios2 evaluation board from Altera (IDE Version 1.1.0, build and what I believe to be the latest Microtronix 2.6.x kernel plugin for same (nios2linux1_3). I can configure a kernel (correctly, I think, according to the recommended additions and subtractions in the documentation), but when I try to build it, it breaks:

for chuckles, nios2-elf-gcc.exe lives in c:/altera/kits/nios2/bin/nios2-gnutools/h-i686-pc-cygwin/bin, the 2nd entry in the NIOS II ide path.

Yes, compiling with cygwin is a real pain and is only a fraction of the speed when compared to running it natively on a Linux machine. I've tried to use the nios2-ide there there are a number of scripts hardcoded (the windows way). Most of it can be reverse engineerd, but the documentation of the command line tools to perform the same task (which is fine by me), is lacking...

Furthermore, developing for GNU/Linux on a Windows machine just doesn't feel right... It is at least a reason for me (and others in our company) not to opt for this platform...

Until the new release comes out, a quick and simple way to continue to use the existing uClinux distribution with Quartus 5.0 would be to add a symbolic link.

The symbolic link lets the current build scripts find the kernel source code.

In a NIOSII SDK Shell, type in the following:

ln -s $KERNEL_PLUGIN/linux-2.6.x /linux-2.6.x

"We are now updating the uClinux distribution to support the latest version of the Altera tools that are currently being mailed out to customers. The release will not be ready for about 3 weeks. If you are using uClinux, please do not install the latest version of the Altera tools, or your uClinux environment will no longer function!

We are adding support for the Stratix II Nios Development Kit, upgrading the Eclipse plug in to version 3.0, and updating the kernel to 2.6.11 as well as supporting the new versions of the Altera tools."

Are there any news to this topic? I am a student from germany and try to use uclinux for the Stratix II board but its not supportet at the moment.

Would be nice to have an reply.

What is the status of this release? I REALLY need support for Quartus 5 and the NIOS II Cyclone (EP1C20) dev board. Please advise ASAP.

Please respond to the above post regarding the availablity of Quartus 5 support. I was informed via telephone that this release was complete and was to be posted for download last Friday (6/24/05). Please post this update ASAP - this update is critical to my current development.
