21 years agoSOPC 5.0 Compile error?
Hello,
I get a very strange message during SOPC compilation that occurs during the generation of the CPU: The message is : ERROR: In object ' ' of class e_dpram: can't access 'read_during_write_mode_mixed_ports' field known fields are: _AUTOLOAD_ACCEPT_ALL _module_name _already_declared_file...... this goes on for awhile. I double checked my system, which is a standard C20 build with an added DMA. I am using SOPC 5.0 to target and Altera Cyclone C20 dev board. Any tips appreciated. Thanks, -Ray11 Replies

Try closing and opening SOPC Builder. Also, if your cpu was generated with a previous version, you could try deleting and re-adding it in 5.0.

Sounds like you are suffering from version-itis.
You are using a Nios II 5.0 with an older version of SOPC Builder (which comes bundled with Quartus). Contact your Altera representative and ask for the latest version of Quartus 5.0. - Altera_Forum

Hello,
Thanks for your inputs. I had tried reopening projecgt several times, problem persists. Also, I am using with Nios II 5.0, Quartus 5(beta) SOPC Builder 5 build 91. Still puzzled? -Ray - Altera_Forum

Your Quartus 5.0 build 91 is too old.
You'll need to get a more recent version. - Altera_Forum

Thanks for tip James.
I went and picked up build 134, supposed to be latest and see a new type of problem. Whereas before, I would see the cryptic error, now with build 134, the compile seems to get stuck during the arbitration build phase. I sent the earlier problem to Altera support and they have an SR bug on it. Thanks, -Ray - Altera_Forum

How are you using 5.0? It has not been released yet......

I would like to know that as well, can you download a beta build somewhere?

This is a test...

Hello,
I do not believe that 5.0 has been released for general consumption yet. I got a 5.0 beta because I needed to compile for a new Cyclone II board that my company is working on. What I am really trying to do now is test the speed of DMA accesses with 5.0, but I get first the strange error with build 91 and then the stall with SOPC build 134. I might start a new thread to discuss this. -Ray - Altera_Forum

Hi Ray,
Ok, understood ;-) Well we are much closer to being done with 5.0 -- I suggest that if you haven't already done so, obtain a more recent copy and that should clear things up.. these sorts of things are not uncommon in early pre-release builds and (should) get caught by the QA process. There was a problem of arbitration generation taking a while, depending on the system, that could take system generation take quite a long time (but not stuck forever as you describe) -- this was recently addressed.
