16 years agoQuestions about Nios II Embedded cyclone III edition
Hi,
I have some questions about the Nios II Embedded cyclone III edition. 1. When I'm trying to build my own sopc file the quartus web edition gives me this message that the file which is being generated is limited time ,so when I tried to check for the license that allows me to use all the mega cores libraries I didn't find any thing in the altera site like the price of the license they only mentioned that I should call the distributors, so do you know anything about licensing the program? 2. When I use Nios II program ,I use the MicroC OS and it shows me this message that I should pay for the OS, so if I didn't pay what will happen? Will my application stop in the future? Becuase Im writing my graduation project so I need to know about that? 3. Do you have a sopc file that uses all the perpherials in the Nios II kit? Because that sopc that is included in the kits they only use the Lcd,touch, ethernet and SD Card? But all other perpherials I can't use them like the Line In ,Line Out, Video in and RS232? So as you see I'm still new in this field maybe you would say these are silly questions but I don't know their anwers so Please help me. And please recommend me with any person that has an experiense in this kit or tell me about a useful site. yours, Hany Assasa3 Replies

1 - The sales rep can tell you about licensing for individual IP cores or design software. Nobody else really can.
2 - uC/OS-II will continue to function without issue. Micrium has always been very good about using uC/OS-II for education purposes. As long as you're not mass producing or selling your product and it's just for your graduation project, don't worry about it. If you are going to make and sell a product, you need to license the OS from Micrium or you will be violating law. Jake - Altera_Forum

Thanks Jake for your reply.
But what about If I want to have a sopc file that defines all the peripherals or most of them for general use (Question number 3) Is there anyone that you can recomend me with? - Altera_Forum

The standard design that comes with the NEEK contains a basic Nios II system that you can use as a starting point for your design (found in the examples directory, or from the NEEK development kit web page).
You will have to develop or purchase IP cores for the peripherals not included in the standard design. The RS232 is part of the Altera available IP cores (UART Controller). I recommend looking for Video Controller IP core as part of design examples available for the NEEK on the Nios II Wiki. Altera provides a Video IP Suite for purchase and several commercial IP vendors such as SLS corp provide provide IP cores that may help you. Regards,
