what the heck is the "nios ii debug client"? i'm not aware of any product by that name.
the nios ii eds already provides the ide and necessary toolchain for debugging. is this supplied by a 3rd. party (company other than altera)?
cheers,

The Nios II Debug Client is copyrighted by Altera and Mathematics Department, Macquarie University, Sydney.
As i mentionned, that software was included on my "Altera University program CD" which came with the Altera DE2.
Nios II Debug Client allows you to compile/upload code with very very very small footprints. It can fit into the onchip memery which I haven't been able to do in conjunction with the Nios II IDE. Also, you can track nios II registers while running code, single step thru the code, etc.
Has this tool been rendered obsolete by other tools?
See this tutorial for a short overview:
http://www.altera.com/education/univ/mater...ion_verilog.pdf (
http://www.altera.com/education/univ/materials/manual/labs/tut_sopc_introduction_verilog.pdf)
By the way, i've fixed my problem by finding a workaround.
I can manually install it by extracting the zipped content from the installer executable file.
Once extracted, you'll get a directory called "$[31]".
Simply copy the content of "$[31]/bin" in your $SOPC_KIT_NIOS2/bin folder.
Now it can be executed via your Nios II shell.

Hi Pascal,
How did you unzip the installer ? I tried with no success (Winzip 10.0 says that the file is not a valide self extracting archive).
Could you help me ?
Thanx.
