µCLinux in Stratix GX Development Board

Yes, you can run uClinux if you have ddr/sdram.

You should start with a mininal system with only nios2 cpu core,sdram,full featured timer,jtag/serial console and a cfi flash, (cfi flash can be dummy and removed later).

Note, the interrupt vector (ie, exception vector) should be in uClinux program memory, ie sdram.

On my board, I have one Stratix and one Stratix GX.

The Stratix GX is connected to a DDR SDRAM but not to a flash.

The Stratix is connected to 8Mb flash.

Both are connected together with a bridge.

Do you think is it possible?

Ok, thanks but I will have a version problem if I want to use Stratix GX.

Why? Because the Microtronix Nios II Linux Distribution (v1.4) has been updated to support the Nios II 5.0 IDE and Quartus 5.0.

The problem is that the family device Stratix GX in the SOBCBuilder 5.0 is not supported. So I have to use the Quartus 5.1 and Nios II 5.1, both are not supported by the Microtronix Nios II Linux Distribution (v1.4).

I hope you understand my problem.

If you have a solution...

(I think to use ecos if it is impossible for me to do that with uCLinux.

We know there are a lot of problems with Microtronix Nios II Linux Distribution (v1.4) on IDE.

That&#39;s why I suggest you follow the buildroot guide.

It is a different approach, which can be used with all Quartus II and Nios II version.

It is very easy to use and customize.

Many people on the forum have successed by following the buildroot guide.

I have to run uClinux on stratix gx development board, but I have problems with generating system in SOPC builder 5.1. When I try to use DDR SDRAM Controller MegaFunction I have error: "requires Stratix II, Stratix, Cyclone II, Cyclone device to operate". In About this Core, Device Families Supported section there is Stratix GX. So what is wrong?

What is the version of your DDR sdram core?

I have version 3.3.0. I can try with the latest but in documentation of my core version there is stratix gx supported. So maybe other ideas. Thanks a lot for the answer.

My Stratix GX Dev. kit does not have DDR SDRAM. So I have to buy it.

I use Windows environment. Now I have problems with SOPC builder and system generating. I have on my board 256MB DDR 333MHz CL2.5, but I think you can buy even faster DDR RAM 400MHz.
