PCI Express - rescan

Is there any way to get Windows XP / BIOS to rescan for PCI devices so I don't have to reboot the PC after loading the Altera part?

    in the device manager, uninstall this device, and then rescan new device.

    That doesn't work. It seems to need to go all the way back to the BIOS startup to recognize our board again after we reprogram it.
