DDR2 Quartus 8.0 to 9.0 upgrade question

Has anyone in here successfully migrated the DDR2 high performance core from Quartus 8.0 to 9.0? Did you just open it up and regenerate it, or did you do a full rebuild and copy of parameters only ? I tried the regenerate route and essentially ended up with the "local_init" line never indicates initialization over and with no data flowing through my memory. Timing was still being met, so evidently no problems there. Thanks!
