Which fpga/cpld to use?

Hi everyone,

I currently have an industrial PC which only has PCI slots (not PCI Express). At the moment we have an existing interface board which takes in some fibre optic signals and transfers these up through the PCI cards into the CPU.

I have been told that I can use an Altera board to handle the I/O through its own PCI card. This would mean instead of the 4 PCI cards I have now I can get all my I/O with one card attached to an Altera board. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what this Altera hardware would be?

You would most likely need to design your own PCI board with respective external interfaces on board. Existing Altera or third party PCI Dev Kits can help in evaluating the design, e.g.:
