what is AS X4 option in "Convert Programming file" of Quartus?

Hi all,

I understand what is AS X4. But what confuses me is a sentence in Datasheet talking about config EPCQ using AS, as seen in the first attachment.

It says

"Using the AS header, the programmer serially transmits the operation commands and configuration bits to the epcq on data0. this is equivalent to the programming operation for the epcs."

So this means that there is only AS X1 mode when programming EPCQ using AS.

However, when you convert .sof file to .jic file which can be burn into EPCQ, using the "Convert Programming file" dialog in Quartus, there is a AS X4 option, as you can see from the second attachment.

I just tried this two options when converting to .jic file with 'AS' and 'AS X4', both options work fine.

So what does the option here means? Especially the AS X4. According to the first attachment, There is ONLY ASX1 when programming using AS head.

Thanks for your time and effort~~~

I forget to mention that I am using Terasic Cyclone V 5CGXFC5C6 kit, and it is using USB-Blaster interface to config. Is it due to USB-Blaster?

When you program the EPCQ device via the AS programming header, it programs it x1. That is what the statement from the datasheet is referring to.

However, when the EPCQ device programs the FPGA it can either do this x1 or x4. That is what you're selecting when you generate a programming file via the 'Convert Programming File' window. Since your kit supports a EPCQ256, connected as a 'quad' device, you can select x4 when generating your programming file.

    Cheers,
