Problem in programming C II using ASP or JTAG

Can I configure C II FPGA without CPLD?

I designed a board that uses C II EP2C5t144 and used ONLY a config chip called EPCS1NI8. I attached the schematic here for that portion.

Can you help me please to know:-

1- Is my schematic correct? Something wrong with it?

2- How can I program the FPGA? would SOF file work? must I use POF file?

3- Can you guide me please to create the correct POF for that config device EPCS1N?

Finnaly, must I use CPLD like EP3C5E144A7?

I appreciate your help.

Thanks.

You should be able to upload your design in the EPCS through the Quartus programmer and the USB blaster connected to the ASP connector.

Check also that your FPGA MSEL pins are configured in AS mode, or the FPGA won't try to configure itself from the EPCS.

I have the MSEL0 and MSEL1 connected to the GND.

Is that correct for the ASP mode?

I was surprised this morning that it did work, I mean I was able to upload using the ASP connector.

Would that be because I left the board for 24 hours not used.

That indicates to me (with a beginner knowledge) that it might be the FLUX residue, wasn't dry enough yesterday, and today got dry!!

I really need to know why that happen.

    What do you think?

It can have multiple reasons... The next time it doesn't work, you can try and look at the signals going from the USB blaster with an oscilloscope. Some combinations of cable length and bad contact could distort the signals enough to make the upload fail.
