MAXPLUS II download for programming Altera 7000 device

:(:(I just need to configure a device on our product. The device cfg appears to be corrupt or empty, there is a 10pin connector that can be used for downloading the cfg using a byteblaster. I'm haing a ton of difficulty. I big difference is there is nobody to call anymore.

Back 10 years ago, I set up a PC wit this same software for the same purpose. It was very simple. Now I believe the MAXPLUS II software requires a dat file, and to get one, I need to give my PC's hard disk SN. I have to now get IT to open the PC and get that SN for me. What! Is that correct? Or am I complicating this entire process?

I've read the instructions and the on line help, and can't really make any sense out of it accept that I think I need to do what I had described. I downloaded the MAX PLUS II software and am able to bring up the programming window, but the software will not recognize my parallel port cable. I also tried a USB cable, but I can't find the driver for it. Nothing is working! I do not remeber it being this difficult 10 years ago...these tasks should get easier, not more difficult!

What do I need to download and how? And what type of info do I need to this (HD SN)?

    JTAG programmable MAX7000 devices, e.g. MAX7000S series are supported up to recent Quartus versions and by Altera stand alone programmer (ASAP2). Why do you want to use MAXPLUS2?

    MAXPLUS2 doesn't support USB programmoing cables, the MAXPLUS Byte Blaster driver most likely doesn't work with new Windows versions.

    Because that is what we had used previously for this older product. Are you saying using Windows XP, and a parallel byteblaster cable or a USB Blaster cable, it would be best to use the Quartus to download the pof file to a 7000 series CPLD?

    Yes, I suggest to use the Quartus programmer or ASAP2 with the existing *.pof file.

    I'm using an byte blaster with quartus2 with windows XP. NO PROBLEM.
