license setup cable question

Hi all,

I had a question regarding with the license setup. As long as I have a Cat5 cable plugged into my ethernet port, Quartus is happy and every thing works well. However, when there is not cable plugged in Quartus tells me that it can't find a valid license and wants to know if i want to run it in evaluation mode. Hence, evidently my license file is linked to my wired Ethernet Port and not to my wireless port and the licensing process can't for some reason find the wired Ethernet port if it isn't active with an active CAT5 Ethernet cable plugged in. I was able to get around the problem by using an unconnected 4 port routed and plugging it into the wire Ethernet port and then the license works well. However, this requires that I carry around this extra 4 port router with me which is a pain in the neck. Is there another way to get my license file to work when I don't have a wired ethernet connection?

Thanks for any help that can provided.

Best regards

Jessica

    Hi,

I'm not quite sure if I remember correctly, but I think this has to do with the XP function to save energy by shutting down the ethernet if not connected. This would imply the problem can be solved by deactivating the energy safe option on the ethernet, must be somewhere in the LAN device setup...

I'm running Win7, otherwise I would check for the option...

    Sincerely, Carlhermann

    interesting suggestion,

i found this under Control Panel > Network Connections. right click on the NIC and choose Properties, then Configure, and go to the Power Management tab.
