How to read the Remote System Upgrade Status Register in Cyclone III?

Using the Remote Update feature of Cyclone III, If the switch to an Application Configuration has failed (AN429 Page 2) I would like to determine if the cause was a watchdog (configuration error) or not (lost power during re-configuration).

According to AN521 Page 25, this information is available in the Remote System Upgrade Status Register bits [30..26] as 5'b00010.

Can you show me an example NIOS II code for how to read those bits?
