ed8b10b Encoder/Decoder

Hello!

I have a Stratix II FPGA : EP2S60F672C3N from altera.. i opened on altera literature ug-ed8b10b.pdf file getting started instructions, i folloed all the steps there and finally i got to the last step: Program Device, i open the programmer and i have dec_time_limited.sof/Device: EP2S60F672/Checksum: 00A..... Program/Configure box checked... ready to push Start.. I hit start and in the end i get an Error message i really i dont understand.

Error: Can't communicate with device. Device will stop functioning when it reaches its non-tethered mode timeout limit.

For about 1second my LED's on my board stop blinking, is Loading the program into the board i get message in Quartus successfully loaded the program into device and then comes back to factory settings.. please help!

    HI UltraViolet,

    it seems QII generates, time limited sof. so this problem , why dont you use, synthesis cookbook 8b/10, example instead

    hello video_signal!

    I will try to use that one too, i have downloaded it once so have to look on it. But i still wonder, QII .sof is time limited to one hour and i canot use it even for a 1 min.

    could you halp me a little on how to whit the cookbook? I open the QII select new project give name and then have to select a library, would this be \cookbook\communications directory?

    There is no library. You have to add the modules decoder_8b10b.v respectively encoder_8b10b.v to your project. encoder_tb.v can be used as a template how to use the modules.

    still no progress in this... :( is my board broken or so? how do i test it and see if all ok, anyway now my warranty has expired too, quartus II license doh :(
