DSP Builder for university student

Have your professor join the Altera University program and then he can request a Quartus II full-edition license.

software installed on your computer with licensing set up'

Will i be ok with just a web edition licence type?

Also, the licence request asks for a my NIC address. I am running a virtual machine on my mac so which do i give? is this just for the download or is the licence tethered to the NIC address?

you can use DSP Builder with QII Web Edition

the NIC ID should be that of the Virtual Machine where the software will be running

Given that you need to request a DSP Builder License, you may as well request a full Quartus license at the same time. You can't use any of the high-end DSP devices (Stratix series) without a full license.

Use the VM NIC, or make a NIC up and change your VM to use that NIC. I have multiple versions of VirtualBox with older versions of Quartus installed. The only issue I have seen is that under a Windows 7 host, the USB-Blaster cannot be given to the VM. However, it works fine under a Centos 6.2 and WinXP host.

I didn't realise i could get a full Quartus licence! so would this full quartus licence (and DSP Builder as well) be time limited i.e for the length of my course?

I wish i knew this before.. i only have a few months left :o

It is not time limited in any way.

You can also request licenses for components like FIR, NCO, etc. The university program is very nice :)
