Big Quartus puzzle, with openSuSE

I have four 64-bit computers running various versions of openSuSE. One is the license server and hosts the software on a disk that is NFS exported to the other three. I can start and run both Quartus 9.0 and 9.1 on two of them, but not the other two (one of which is the license server). Both Quartus versions are at SP2, but this does not matter.

For the failures, in the case of v9.0 the initial title screen flashes and the code segfaults; for v9.1, I get the message

RPCSS ServiceMain failed with 1702

The binding handle is invalid

and a core dump. The qgui (for v9.1) command works, however.

The overall configuration and behavior is:

Machine openSuSE Quartus 9.0 Quartus 9.1

---------------------------------------------------------------

pc1 10.3 OK OK

pc2* 10.3 segfault RPCSS...

pc3 11.1 OK OK

pc4 11.2 segfault RPCSS...

* License server, with program on local disk (NFS exported)

The two 10.3 systems are very close, but not quite identical, although the differences look to be irrelevant. The firewall is off on each system. BTW, when I originally started some time ago with Quartus 9.0, it ran on all computers. Something in a configuration has changed, but I don't know where to look.

SuSE 10.3 is obsolete and I really need to upgrade all computers. I need to understand what is wrong here so that I can be sure the Altera software will work afterwards.

There is no difference between myself as a user and root.

I have managed to get pc2 to behave. I rebooted the computers, and at least pc2 brings up both v9.0 and v9.1.

The remaining problem is pc4. It cannot bring up v9.0, and needs qgui for v9.1.

PC4 is my SuSE 11.2 system. I need to upgrade my other computers to 11,2 (and 11.3 when it comes out in a couple of months). If the only problem is that I have to use qgui for a while, I can live with it. But I would hate to have other isasues such as with license serving. I would also lose v9.0 entirely, which may not be a loss once our application is converted.
