DE1 AS Mode Problem

Hello,

I have the DE1 kit and I use Quartus 7.1 under win xp2.

I can jtag program without a problem but I cannot

get the programmer to show me AS mode.

(I can do a SFL using jtag OK)

When I select a POF file I get an error (as it's in jtag mode)

I switch to 'PROG' on the board as explained in the docs.

Any ideas ?

Thank you.

    Hello,

may be I missunderstood your question, but I believe, Quartus Programmer can always be switched to Active Serial mode, even with no programming hardware connected. There could be an issue that no AS configuration device is indentified, but this could only happen after selecting AS mode. Why can't you select AS mode in the drop-down field?

    Hello Frank,

    Thanks for replying.

I don't know why that option doesn't appear.

I downloaded the stand-alone programmer and I get exactly the same problem.

Do you know if that option appears only when it recognises the config chip ?

When I want to change mode I just move the switch to PROG, then do an autodetect.

    Is that correct ?

At the moment I'm using .jic files and SFL to config the chip - that works without

    any problem.

    It doesn't look to me like a hardware problem - I wonder if there's a non-default

setting which needs to be changed somewhere.

    Best

    Hello,

can't say how the mode selection in ASAP looks like. In Quartus Programmer, you can open the programmer window without a project loaded, select AS-Mode in the "Mode:" dropdown field, and perform "Add File". When a programming hardware is present (can be selected or reselected at any time through Hardware Setup), the Start Buttonis enabled. Auto Detect is never enabled in AS Mode, but you can perform e. g.a "Blankcheck" to test the hardware. If a hardware problem exists, you get something likeerror: can't recognize silicon id for device 1. That's the first time, the target hardware comes into play.

    Hello Frank,

"In Quartus Programmer, you can open the programmer window without a project loaded, select AS-Mode in the "Mode:" dropdown field, and perform "Add File". "

That's what I thought should happen.

For some reason both inside QuartusII and in the standalone programmer

there is no AS option - only JTAG.

Anyway, I can configure via jtag/SFL OK so that will have to do for now.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards
