Vector Waveform File missing in 10.1?

I am supporting instructors at a university who use Quartus II as a teaching tool. The labs were upgraded from Windows Vista-32 bit to Windows 7-64 bit just prior to my arrival 6 months ago. After the upgrade it was noted that the ByteBlaster cables no longer worked ( and it seems that they never will), and that a new Quartus was available, so I dl'd and installed it on the lab machines, and now it seems that the Vector Waveform File and the simulation that went with it is missing, too.

The instructors show the vector waveforms to students, to illustrate, for example, what happens when 2 square waves of different lengths are inputs to a XNOR gate and how the output is affected. How can they do that now? I am not at all familiar with the program myself, so if you can give me specific ideas, I would appreciate it!

Also, any ideas on how to actually program devices with Windows 7 64 bit?

    search the forum, the missing waveform editor is discussed frequently. Altera has enabled a GUI waveform editor in ModelSim-A(S)E (for QII 10.1 or later) to take the place of the internal wave editor

    dont know why these altera guys are doing things like these. I am searching for waveform file and wasting time. Each version they rearrange the menus and the way to simulate and debug. This is actually killing a lot of time for developers and i hate it. For each version we need to learn how to work for a day atleast. I am going to install version 9 and do my simulation!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

    I just did a search for QSim on this site. Via the University Program it now provides simulation using vwf's, apparently included for educational purposes. zero results. Yes, the software is there to work with and with a bit of muddling you can be up and running, but overall the changes in V 10.1 were not presented very well. This causes unnecessary confusion and resentment. One can spend hours searching for fragments of information.

    There are those such as myself who indirectly are supporting Altera via the education of students in colleges. With the limitation of 2 or 3 year programs, digital does not get the time it probably deserves. Typically, it must be taught in a modern context using programmable devices but to students that are not as academic as those at university, not to mention the Master's and PhD types. In many cases the digital required is only prerequisite to another application. For example, Electrical or Instrumentation Technologist students need digital as prerequisite to PLC involvement.

    My point is that these students benefit from the graphical format of Q II for learning purposes and in that context bdf's, bsf's, state-machine wizards, megafunctions etc., can be very useful. They also serve to introduce the initially overwelming Quartus II software without the added load of an HDL.

    It is a disservice to hard working educators when Altera makes major changes to Q II without due consideration for the impact it has on instructors and students. Surely it's not asking too much to be provided with a thorough summary of the changes that have been made and how to minimize their impact. It is not satisfactory to say "use an earlier version". This is very shortsighted.

    There are some hurdles posed in moving from Q II V 9.1 or earlier, to V 10.1. Does anyone have concrete information that can be pointed to, or a summary that would assist? Any suggestions?
