The basis about library

I am always confused by the usage and definition of library. Although currenly it looks like it did not affect my FPGA design and development, but I am eager to have a clear understanding about them....

Yes, kaz, all these folders have original VHDL files, EDA tools need to compile them then they can use.

But does my understanding right about this:

"Let me say this way, so in VHDL design file (I mean I create a design with VHDL file), the reason I put the library command like (Library altera_mf ) This is because in my design, I need some entity that are not in my project, with the library command, Quartus can know where to find these entity because library give the path information"
