signal tapp II error

Hi. just joined the forum. I was trying the DE1 synthesizer demo file but i got this error instead:

Error: Can't compile project with SignalTap II instance "sld_signaltap:auto_signaltap_0" in unsupported SignalTap II IP version 5. Current SignalTap II IP version is 6.

what is this error and how to correct it?

i am using the DE1 board with quartus ii v.9.

I wanted to see how to design an audio project (e.g. music box, tone generator)but i am not familiar with this signal tap function. is this really required to run an audio project?

any help or link will be appreciated. tnx in advance

    SignalTap files are upward compatible, but you may need to open the old version file in your Quartus version and save it, which automaticly updates all information.

    Backwards compatibility is limited with some Quartus versions, you may have problems to open a newer version signaltyp file in an older Quartus version. In this case, manual editing of the signaltyp file (it's XML) is the only solution, if you don't want to rebuild it from the scratch.
