question to USB_API example fromQuartusII starter development kit

Hi, I'm using the USB_API example from quartusII starter development kit. I need to make something that works like the example. Before that I want to find out if the SW part source code of that example was developed with help of Nios, or it was just wirten with a C/C++ dev tool like Visual studio?
