Questa Starter Edition download question

Hello everyone,

I need to download Questasim Altera Starter Edition, but I've just found that there are two download possibilities from the Download Center web page:

If I choose Quartus Prime Pro I can download the latest version from Individual Files, i.e. QuestaSetup-25.1.1.125-windows.exe, Size: 2.3 GB

If I choose Quartus Prime Standard/Lite I can download form the Individual Files the version QuestaSetup-24.1std.0.1077-windows.exe which size is only 900.9 MB

Cosidering I have to use the Starter Edition anyway, where is the difference?

    Hi,

    Questa is bundled with Quartus, Std. and Pro versions most likely differ in shipped libraries. I'd use Questa bundled with your Quartus version.

    It really depends on the device that you are planning to use, Questasim usually ship together with the precompiles libraries which includes those devices. If you are using Agilex 7/5, stratix10, Arria 10. I would suggest you install the Questasim with the Quartus Pro edition and vise versa.

    Thank you for the valuable info.

    I am using Quartus Prime Lite 24.1 .

    Just wondering if I can upgrade Questasim only to the new 25.1.1 I can download from the Quartus Prime Pro download section and use the Starter Edition licence. It seems yes.

    Of course I cannot simulate devices shipped with 24.1, but for now I am not using any Altera primitive.

    Asking because with 24.1 I have some GUI issues with win11 and I would like to understand if I can solve them with the new version.

      As mentioned, Lite/Standard vs. Pro is device-specific, so unless you're using a device supported by Pro, you can't use the QuestaSim that comes with Pro along with Lite.

      Lite/Standard is not updated as frequently as Pro these days, so unless you're using a Pro-supported device (what is your target device?) you have to stay with Lit/Standard.
