Quartus v7.2 - UBUNTU v8.04, Hardy

Quartus II uses MainWin (...thus, the /tmp/Mw.... stuff). You could try running mwcleanup and/or just deleting/removing all of the "/tmp/Mw*" directories. Also, knowing how MainWin works, you might also want to check that you have the following font packages installed:

That's not because there's any particular requirement for exactly these font packages, but it is working for me and these are what I have installed. MW could be hanging when building up the font cache.
