Is there not a web/lite FREE version of Quartus that you can start with?
I've used Quartus on a whole lot of TerAsic and Altera boards over the past 25+ years and never had to purchase a license.
If you migrate to one of the latest / biggest / costly devices or want to use specific licensed IP then a Prime Pro or Standard version might be necessary.
But I'd go to the download page:
and see if a Prime Lite version 22.1.2 fits your immediate needs.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer. I'm indeed aware of the free / Lite version. I've been using Quartus since version 7. However, I have a few reasons to consider actually buying a Standard edition of the software.
As far as the latest version goes that you link, I've tried these latest versions before. Though the case with these newer versions since 20.1.1.720 is that the new ModelSim version called Questa installs on my system, though no matter how I install or refer to the obtained license for this Questa version, I can not get it to run. Quest will NOT pick up the free license obtained through the license center. So that stopped me from using any of the newer Quartus/Questasim versions.
My reasons for a Standard license thus come down to the following motive:
- Associate a legal identification of myself to a purchased license. So "they" know who I am, legitimized through a license.
- Possibly run Questa without problems where it picks up the associated purchased license properly. I can then make full use of product support and together with Intel figure out why I am not able to use QuestaSim and have to use an older version with ModelSim that still works properly.
- Private derived IP developments possibly being protected better.
So, I actually hope from an answer from Intel for this.
Thanks for your time though.
