Quartus II web edition crashes during synthesis of tutorial project files

Windows 7 64bit

Processor Intel Core i7-2760QM 2.4GHz

RAM 8GB

Admin privileges

I downloaded the Quartus II 13.1 Web Edition with Cyclone II-V support from Altera website. I tried reinstalling it, jsut in case, but same error occurs.

I first encountered the problem while following the free online tutorial, then again when running both the tutorial project files as they are. If I change project the address where the access violation occurs changes, but the body of the error message stays the same.
