Quartus II V10.1 Bull5hit.. Why?

Stick to Quartus II 9.1SP2: Pro

• Schematic Editor works OK
• Pin Planner has little problems
• Internal Simulator is still there
• Works fine

Contra:

• No final support for Cyclone IV (but you could do just the compilation in 10.1 using the command line?)
• Limited VHDL-2008 support (not that bad)

It wasn't broken, but some manager decided to fix it anyway, at the expense of dropping the internal simulator. Quartus II 10.1 certainly has a nicer look, but looks are not everything.

Maybe all this hasn't got Altera's highest priority, I expect the 'big' customers (those 20% making 80% of the revenue) are using Third Party design tools anyway?

Just like Ironmoose says, we may have to wait until 11.2SP3 or so ...

I've had all the exact same problems you've had! I wish I could go back to the 9.2 editor, but it is too late.

I would have done a service request at mysupport, but the amount of effort involved in packaging all the problems appeared to be too big a job. Also, I'm not sure this would help. My most recent SR has been sitting in the queue for two weeks with no answers.

Must agree with the general feeling about Quartus II 10.x. It is almost a disaster how they managed to break a very stable and reliable software.

I doubt this can be solved just by reporting bugs. The only reasonable way would be for Altera to work proactively on this. I agree that currently doesn't look as Altera is taking this as a high priority.

I also agree that if this was high priority, then Altera should assign a couple of engineers to this forum. We all know the forum is not official Altera support, but now it is in own Altera's best interest. A couple of smart people, reading the forum, asking some questions, and trying to reproduce bugs, they could find and fix lots of bugs far faster than through the formal channels.

I agree with you, Are we suposed to be the testers? while doing our development? I mean It is not only a non-beta version, but a release AND we are also paying for the License. So Why should we receive such a bad service?

At the moment we are mantaining our Designs with Quartus 9.2sp2 ( with Full License) and I recently had some trouble with "Incremental Compilation" and Logic Lock Regions. ( Which are available only on the Licensed version and not in the web-version )

They recognize there was a problem on the software and that it will be reported to the software guys. but after a while this is what they respond to me.

Unfortunately, Altera Service Request only support Quartus version begining with 10.0 to 10.1 SP1 (latest version).

Thus, I would like to suggest customer to use the latest Quartus to avoid the internal error.

This is what happens when I try to do it on the "Right Way" via an "Official Channel" of support with mySupport from Altera.

So.. what do we have left???

1.- Migrate to ****y version of Quartus 10 + Buying Again the License?

2.- Stay with Quartus 9.2(full license) + Do not use theese features (Why do we spend that money on licencing?)

3.- Take on acount while doing a budget planning, a lot of aditional hours to be "playing" and debuging "alteras's software". ( I dont think our client will like that one.

4.- If a new development is starting, Think twice on the tools before suggesting to the client making a design with an Altera FPGA.

Thanks good I have also a Xilinx ISE License, but there are always some clients that want altera, not knowing what it represents for us :-( :mad:

I only see 9.1SP2.
