Pin Assignment at Nios 2 tutorial

Hello,

I worked through the nios 2 hardware development tutorial (http://www.altera.com/literature/tt/tt_nios2_hardware_tutorial.pdf) from the Altera website in order to set-up a Nios 2 processor on my DE2 development board for the first time.

Everything went well until I got to the pin assignment part. When I tried to change the pin location of the LED outputs of the Nios to the actual LEDs on the board Quartus II gives me the following error: "Editing location assignment is not successful. The pin is already assigned."

Any suggestions how I should react to that problem? The tutorial doesn't mention it. I understand that I can't control the LEDs through my processor if I don't get those connections right.

The pin locations should be changed as they are all fixed given you cannot change the fabricated connections on the board.

But assuming you would still like to go ahead, change the pin assignments in the Quartus settings file i.e. .qsf file of your project.

I'm not familiar with this tutorial, but are the pin assignments predefined or done by yourself? You can see the assignment e.g. in the assignment editor.

They all are pre-defined. You can have a look in .qsf file to check if they all are a part of the project-wide settings.
